Christmas Tree & First Gifts

We put our Christmas tree up the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We always get a real tree. I'm a big believer in real trees, but that's just because we always had one growing up. We went to Wal-Mart (we have gotten some of our best trees there) and it didn't take us long to find the perfect tree. We had so much fun all decorating it together. Joseph actually participated and did a pretty good job! We started a new tradition this year. We have given the boys a new ornament every year, but this year we decided that we would give them to them when we put the tree up as their first gift. We wrapped them up and also wrapped each boy a book. They thought it was so special to get to open a gift so early! It was so fun.
The boys were so excited because Joseph actually put his on all by himself!
Wade and Lafe noticed that their ornaments were on the tree just right. Wade on top, Lafe a little lower in the middle, and Joseph's at the bottom. We worked really hard to keep it that way as we added more ornaments.

I love decorating for Christmas. I am not putting everything up this year. I'm kind of keeping it simple. The more we outgrow this house, the less I want to put up. It just starts to feel more crowded and cluttered with extra stuff around. But, my holiday spirit is still in full swing! I did manage to buy these stocking holders. I've never had them because our stockings do not have loops, but I'm making these work. Our stockings have always just been pinned into the mantle. I really like the look of these!!!

I have to ask....WHERE did you get the stockings with your name on them? (like the one with your name) We grew up with stockings like that and I LOVED them! I have always wished I could find them for my kiddos! :o)

Cute!!! I love the pics of the boys. They are so sweet with each other. And I'm with you on the STUFF. The older I get, the less "stuff" I like to have out - all year round actually!

Looks like ya'll are truly enjoying the holidays! :) Thanks for sharing it with us and I"m glad you're still blogging! I love getting to know your family a little this way. And, just for the record, you have no reason to feel bad about the comment you made. You are seeing God's glory work even through a not so good situation. I have no doubt you have allowed God to use you and your family for His glory during that rough time and in my opinion, you were just acknowledging how Great God is!

Cute decorations! The ornament tradition is really neat. That will be a very special memory for the boys. I love decorating my own tree with the ornaments I got when I was a kid.
