Wade is not perfect....

BUT... his TAKS scores were!!! My precious 3rd grader did NOT miss one question on that crazy test. We are so proud of him. It's not a huge surprise for us because he is so stinkin' smart. I try not to discuss grades and such with other parents because we all think our kids are smart and I don't want to cause any ill feelings, but I couldn't let this one pass. I am too stinking proud!!!!!!!

By the way, I've been wanting to share this little tidbit of info, but like I said, I try not to brag too much.

So, while I'm at it..... we found out this year that Wade is reading AND comprehending on a 7th grade level. This is of course as high as they could test him. Who knows how much further he would've gone. While we are excited about this, we are leary of the CONTENT. I don't think emotionally or spiritually Wade is necessarily ready for the content that some of those books provide. So, if you have any suggestions for books at that level that would be appropriate, we would GREATLY appreciate it. Wade's 4th grade teacher suggested a series that we bought him, but it won't be long before he is finished with all of those.

That is INCREDIBLE and you have every right to brag and be proud! Way to go Wade! As a teacher, the smarties are the hardest ones to teach....it's hard to teach them anything new! They end up teaching us! Yes, you are defintaly right in your thoughts on higher grade level materials not being appropriate for Wade at his age. Has he read the Series of Unfortunate Events? Great, entertaining series...or books by Gary Paulsen (Hatchet, Brians Winter, etc...they are a series as well) and boys love them...they are about survival. I'll come up with some more...what is he intereted in?

How fortuitous that you have a Christian 7th grade English teacher for a friend. Some great books for upper elementary school to 7th grade are all of the Gary Paulson books: Hatchet, Woodsog, Dogsong...there's also A Wrinkle in Time (it's actually a 3 book series, but we read only the first book) which has some great Christian undertones. I'll ask my boys next week what they're reading...I know that there is a series that my Pre-AP kids wanted me to read last year, but I don't remember what it was. Hope this helps a littl!

I have one more suggestion. The Among the Hidden series by Haddix is awesome. I think there are 5 or 6 books in the series. My boys, especially, love it. It's about a government that says a family can only have two kids. If they have any more, they have to kill them (to control the population). One family has a third and they hide him in their home instead of kill him. He meets another "third" and it goes from there. Great, great suspense type series....I've only ready the first one, but I've heard that the others ones are just good (I only have so much time to keep up with all that my students read).
