My New Prayer

Every year at the hospital we have a "Blessing of the hands." Our chaplains go around to all of the units and also have tables set up outside of the chapel where the nurses, techs, secretaries, Nurse Practitioners, and doctors can have their hands blessed. It's really nice!!! They pour warm water over your hands and then the chaplain rubs oil on your hands while blessing them. This year they gave us a card with the most beautiful prayer on it. I am going to put this to memory. It is a prayer that you can pray no matter what your career is. Whether you are a stay at home mom, a nurse, a doctor, a teacher, a minister, a photographer, a chemist, etc. You get the point! I hope it blesses you as much as it does me!

Holy One,
I come to work today
and this is what I offer;
Me. Here. In this place.
Use this life of mine for a higher cause, a greater good.
May this be a place of transformation.
May I learn the lessons here that I am to learn.
May I convey hope and healing to those I encounter
in person, on the phone, or email.
If there is chaos or a problem here today,
may I listen beyond the din of that noise.
If there are politics played out,
please help me to act wisely.
May I keep my ego in check.
May I be generous and compassionate.
Amen.
