Thank you all for your sweet comments and prayers. Lafe's surgery went very well yesterday. He ended up having hernias on both sides. When we got there we went back to a room where they took his vital signs and then gave him his "giggle juice." It's really just versed. I had a hard time watching him become totally unaware of what was going on and having no control of his body. The funniest things he did was staring at his pulse ox monitor on his finger and saying he wanted it off over and over again, and then one time he was sitting on my lap next to the hospital bed. He laid his head down on the bed and said "Wow, my head is on the table." Like, how did that happen and this feels really funny. After about 25 minutes, they took him back to the OR. I really was not emotional like I thought I might be.
From the time they took him back there to the time we got to see him, it was about an hour and a half. It was really hard when we went to see him in recovery. He had an extremely hard time waking up from the anesthesia. He was very emotional and it took longer than usual to find something to calm him down. That was pretty stressful for me. He was still VERY groggy when we took him home, but he had eaten two popsicles and had a little sprite to drink.
He slept the whole way home. We stopped and got his pain medication. We gave that to him and he slept for a little while on the couch. He was in and out of sleep and still very emotional. I held him for awhile and he slept in my arms. That was nice!!! I could've done that for a really long time. After a little time in mommy's arms, he decided he wanted to lay down on my bed. I took him back there and got him situated. When Wade got home from school I told him that Lafe was back there, but he didn't want people loving on him or anything. So, Wade just went back there to say hello, and Lafe starting crying again. Wade came out of my room and said "I think I thought that Lafe was going to be active after his surgery" I said "No. Not for a few days" Then, Wade got emotional and said "All I want to do is play with Lafe." Boy is this going to be fun or what?!
Finally, at 4:15pm we were able to get Lafe out of bed to go to the bathroom. It hurt him really badly, but once he emptied his bladder and got another dose of pain medication, he was a completely different child!!! I now am having to remind him to keep calm and be careful so that he doesn't hurt himself. He is definitely walking funny and it is absolutely hilarious to watch him try and run! It's not really a run!!!
Oh, and bonus! He slept all night and was happy when he woke up, just ready for his medicine.
Okay, this is a forever long post and I know you are all really bored, but I wanted to let everyone know how things went and that we are doing well now. (Yes, I forgot the camera yesterday morning!) David thought that it was even funny that I thought about bringing it.
